"The Aservo® EquiHaler® has the important advancement of Soft Mist™ technology. Greater than 90% of the particles in the soft mist are less than 5 microns in diameter, which allows them to penetrate deeply into the lung to where the bronchoconstriction and inflammation is actually occurring. This allows the pro-drug, ciclesonide, to get to the area of lung where it is needed much more efficiently than other options for inhaled therapy. This is why I recommend the Aservo® EquiHaler® for appropriate Equine Asthma cases.

In my opinion this is the biggest advancement in equine asthma therapeutics in recent times.

"Aservo® EquiHaler® became my first choice for treatment of equine asthma cases soon after it was launched. My two initial reservations were whether horses would accept the EquiHaler®, and whether clients would accept the cost. My owners have found it easy to learn how to use the device by using the videos and support materials provided by Boehringer.

Horses accept the treatment surprisingly well, even tricky racehorses. In my opinion the Aservo® EquiHaler® is very effective, with horses having better and more rapid resolution of clinical signs than with traditional treatments.

One of my more cost aware clients with a trekking yard was delighted with the treatment as the horses could rapidly return to work, compared to the slow or refractory results they had previously seen with traditional treatment, which more than justified the cost."

"When controlling lower airway inflammation in my racehorse patients, I used to tracheal wash them in the days or week prior to racing and then struggle against the withdrawal time to treat them before the next race.

With the Aservo® EquiHaler® I can treat horses earlier in the season, allowing them to train and run with clean tracheal washes, without having to worry about medicating them in the run up to races.

"The Aservo® EquiHaler® has gone from a product I was initially very sceptical about to my preferred first line treatment in cases of severe Equine Asthma. I have also had some really encouraging results in cases which have not responded to the traditional treatment options. Patient and owner selection is; of paramount importance. The ‘how to use’ videos on the EquiHaler® website are a very useful resource to which I direct owners. In addition, if concerned about an owner’s ability to administer, or a horse’s compliance with the product, placebo devices are available to trial prior to prescribing the EquiHaler®.

All in all, this product provides an incredibly positive progression, in terms of therapeutic options, for the treatment of Equine Asthma cases."

"I’ve found the Aservo® EquiHaler® especially useful in management of asthma in my population of athletic horses, especially show jumpers and racehorses. The environmental management is as good as it can be, and sometimes medical intervention is needed.

The clinical results I’ve seen have been very good and, in many cases, improved from previous inhaled treatments I’ve used.

I have found a continuous efficacy of treatment for up to 6 weeks after last treatment. I also like that there is  published urine detection time as it gives the trainer/rider an increased level of confidence using the medication. When coupled with the clinical results I see using the Aservo® EquiHaler® I recommend this as an effective treatment for equine asthma."
